Basement Waterproofing

The underground nature of basements and cellars means they are more susceptible than ‘above ground’ structures to damp problems. Combating these damp problems with the DryRoom basement waterproofing from Peter Cox can transform an unused basement space into habitable accommodation which could add considerable value to your property.

Cavity Drainage Membrane

An example of basement waterproofing using a cavity drainage membrane.

Peter Cox’s basement waterproofing specialists use DryRoom waterproof system to install a tanking membrane which acts as a dry lining to the walls, ceiling and floors with an air gap behind, so that water can be evacuated outside of the building.

All of the Dry Room Tanking Membrane joints and junctions are designed to remove water behind the lining either through natural drainage or pump installation. The first and most important task is to install a DryRoom cavity drainage channel around the edge of the room, bedded into a rebate at the wall/floor junction. DryRoom membrane is then fixed to the walls with waterproofing plugs and then DryRoom floor membrane is laid over the floor. The junction between the wall and floor is sealed using DryRoom corner tape creating a total seal from water ingress. After installing the membrane, the next part of the basement waterproofing process is to secure the internal walls of the room. The internal wall finishes can be either a plasterboard dry lining system or plastering direct onto the membrane.

This subsequently allows you to treat the basement or cellar as you would any other room in the house, allowing you room for perhaps an extra bedroom, a games room, or study. In a competitive property market, such an installation could also give you the edge when selling your home.
