Peter Cox is the leading specialist preservation company in the UK, established for over 66 years, with services ranging from damp proofing, timber preservation and masonry stabilisation.
Peter Cox are also at the forefront of designing and installing basement waterproofing systems to BS8102 standard - creating habitable spaces in existing damp and dark cellars as well as in ‘new-build’ properties.
As Chapter 5.4 of the NHBC standards for waterproofing states that two systems are required to satisfy BS8102, this means that a Type C cavity drain system is used. Protection against ground water or water ingress is provided by an incorporation of a water management system into the basement design.
A Type C system is used to adequately dispose of water to a suitable outlet, either by gravity, or through a sump and pump. This must be designed with adequate access points for servicing and maintenance, with a one way valve to prevent backflow. A Type C system uses a cavity allowing water to reach the drain, while being protected by an internal lining, with all joints and junctions are correctly lapped and sealed.
