Basement & structural waterproofing to BS8102CPD Seminars
This presentation reviews the 3 Types of Waterproofing allowed under the standard along with the 3 Grades of Protection in below ground spaces.
We also explore the recent changes made by the NHBC and their Guarantee specifically to waterproofing in 'new-build' basements and the changes to Chapter 5.4 of their Technical Guidance Docs
The presentation covers the history of wall ties and BS1243 and the extent of the wall tie corrosion problem in over 12 million houses in the UK. We discuss best surveying practice and BRE Digest 401 to visually grade the wall tie condition. We also look at practical solutions to replace corroded ties, crack stitching, lintel creation and consolidating weak masonry with grout inflated anchors.
This update covers the main species of wood boring insects and wood rotting fungi, their individual characteristics, the importance of correct identification and the latest survey and treatment methods including the use of 'sniffer dogs' to search out dry rot!
The presentation also explores the use of resins to repair large section timbers that have been decayed, and illustrations of recent projects.
The relationship between air humidity, air temperature and wall surface temperature is a complex mix and if this is not managed correctly condensation and moulds can occur. We explore how it is formed and illustrate the talk with examples of best practice in dealing with condensation, including the use of Whole House Ventilation and Heat Exchange fans.
For both designers, owners and those responsible for the maintenance of public and commercial property, bird infestation can be a real nuisance. This presentation explains the need for bird deterrence measures and the problems infestation causes, in particular the health risks. It reviews current bird deterrent techniques, their pro’s and con’s and the associated need for bird fouling clearance and site sanitisation.
We also explore the recent changes made by the Premier Insurance and the NHBC and their Guarantee specifically to waterproofing in 'new-build' basements and the changes to Chapter 5.4 of their Technical Guidance Docs
