Another of our series of articles looking at different uses for the term “woodworm”.
Cricket fans will likely be familiar with the name Woodworm, but if you’re not a follower of cricket let me give you a quick overview of Woodworm – or Woodworm Sports Equipment, to give it its full name.
Woodworm was founded by Joe Sillet. He founded the company after his Father made some modifications to his cricket bat to combat a woodworm infestation. After curving the head of the bat to help stop the infestation Joe went on to score 142 not out at his local match. This unusual turn of events inspired Joe to start up the Woodworm business.
With an origin story like that it should be no surprise that Woodworm is well known for its’ high quality cricket equipment. But they have branched out into number of other sporting goods. They sell high quality: golf, darts and skiing equipment and also have a very well-known brand of high quality bikes.

While it’s undoubtedly famed for its cricket bats, the bikes produced by woodworm also have their loyal following. The woodworm logo name may not be as common as other bike manufactures, but rest assured the bikes bearing the Woodworm name are of a very high quality and will suit a variety of different needs.
The range of Woodworm bikes may be quite small at the moment, but they suit a range of needs and offer very competitive prices. Amongst the Woodworm bikes brand you’ll find one child’s bike (available in two vibrant colours) and two adult bikes.
The child’s bike – named the Woodworm Kids BXI Junior – is the perfect mountain bike for the junior cyclist and would make the ideal first bike for any child. Amongst its many features include: alloy rims, powerful front and rear brakes and 6 speed Shimano gear smooth shifting and control.
The bike easily meets the stringent EN14766 safety standards so it will be a safe and smooth ride. The bike also come 85% readily assembled so they’ll be no fiddly assembly process to work through when the bike arrives. It comes with either a high quality red or blue vibrant coat of paint so it will be both a safe and stylish ride.
The first of the two adult bikes is the Woodworm GXI Pro Mens Mountain Bike, this feature packed mountain bike is excellent value for money and is a suitable ride for cyclists who are 5’9 to 6’1. Some of its many features include: a dual suspension frame for added comfort, a soft touch handle bar for added comfort and extra grip, and all terrain tyres that offer great grip off road while also performing well on the road for that extra smooth ride.
The second bike is the Woodworm White Lightning Road Bike, this lightweight yet sturdy and strong bike is designed for speed and is perfect for cycling through the open road. It features: double wall alloy rims, a strong yet light weight frame and powerful front and rear C-star single pivot racing brakes.
All the Woodworm bikes are made with high quality components from top manufactures, such as Shimano, Zoom, KMC amongst others. So while the Woodworm bike brand might be small at the moment if future models share these high standards then its name will likely just get bigger and more popular in the future.
