Turn your basement into a child’s playroom

Basement waterproofing Comments are off

You’re toddler needs a place they can play.  They’ve finally outgrown the living room.  Now it’s time to move the play area to the basement.  Here we’re going to give you several tips on how to do just that.  Having the proper play area is important for children.  You want to give them as much space as possible.  All while in an area that they can have as much fun as possible in.  (Tip: translate the word fun as meaning “creating a big mess” – which is what happens when children play…)

The very first thing you’ve got to think about is carpet.  Obviously, you don’t want your child playing on the hard concrete floor.  But, you also know kids spill stuff.  It’s what they do best.  You need carpet that can easily be replaced.  That’s not possible with your typical wall-to-wall carpet.  This is why you could use square carpet tiles.  Spills and stains are going to happen.  When they do, just remove and place a carpet tile.  You’re not going to have to look at that dirty stain anymore!  This is the best and also cheapest way of dealing with stains.  They’re going to happen.  It’s up to you to be prepared for them.

Make sure there are areas for adults.  This might sound a bit odd for a child’s playroom.  But, think it through for a minute.  There’ll have to be adults in the playroom to watch the children.  You’re going to need something to do while there.  For this reason you may want to think about having your own television.  You’ll also want to make sure that you have access to Wi-Fi.  The internet can be your best friend while watching children.  You don’t have to watch them like a hawk.  Just glance over from time to time to make sure they aren’t hurting themselves.

Skip the theme and go simple.  Your child may love their favourite cartoon.  But, they’ll outgrow it.  You may end up having another kid along the way.  They’ll probably have a different favourite cartoon.  Don’t spend a lot of money giving your playroom a theme.  What a kid likes today, they might not like tomorrow.  The kids you have later on will probably like it a lot less.  You should keep functionality in mind.  That’s the main goal.

Don’t forget storage areas.  This is the one thing that most parents overlook.  All those toys and colouring books need to go some place.  It’s best to have too much storage space than not enough.  Remember, you’ll have things you want to keep down there too.  You won’t be using your computer or watching television all the time.  You’ll want a place to store the things you’re working on down there.  You never want to leave things sitting out.  It’s a bad habit and also a waste of money.  Stepping on your child’s favorite doll or toy car can ruin it.  That’ll ruin a day real fast.

There you have some easy tips on how to turn your basement into a playroom.  Always make sure to keep fun in mind.  That’s the whole reason for a playroom.  You also need to think about your entertainment as well.  Making sure there’s a balance is great for you and your child.  You’re more likely to want to go to the playroom if you’ve got something to keep you busy.  Never forget to take proper safety measures.  Like making sure electric outlets are childproofed.  That way your child can safely have all the fun they could ever desire.

And don’t forget the place will need to be kept dry – learn more about basement waterproofing.
