A 200 year old stone built property situated in a rural location, very close to the Durham Dales where the weather can turn severe in a very short space of time.
The property has suffered from rainwater penetration through the external walls, in particular to the front elevation.
The client had used several contractors in the past who recommended and applied silicone based sprays to the external walls, none of which proved effective as a long-term answer to the problem. The weather conditions can be extreme due to the altitude and isolation of the property and the rain hits the wall almost at a horizontal angle!
We recommended the use of DryWall Thermotek Masonry Protection Cream and the client accepted our recommendations and the works were duly carried out.
DryWall Thermotek cream was then applied by brush following a washing down of the walls and minimal re-pointing. The cream is applied in a single coat and the use of the brush ensures good coverage into the random mortar joints. One coat is sufficient. The cream initially turns white but soon dries to an even clear coat.
The variation can be clearly seen in the photo between treated and un-treated sections.
Our client was very happy with the results.
