The increase in solar panels has seen a rise in the problems associated with pigeons.
Pigeons have always proved to be a very adaptable species, capitalising on the increasing urbanisation of our environment, thriving where other forms of wildlife have diminished.
These conurbations have long experienced problems resulting from pigeons roosting and nesting. With a single pigeon producing up to 15 kilograms of droppings every year, they are a risk to health as well as making an unsightly mess of the areas they inhabit.
Many housing associations have chosen to add solar panels to their properties and pigeons have been quick to exploit these new structures as ideal places to roost and nest. This has resulted in damage to the panels, the glass panels becoming dirty and, therefore, less effective in generating energy. One dirty panel reduces the output off the whole array.
The pigeons typically roost and nest under the panels, then perch on roof tops and gutters during the day. They also foul onto footpaths and balconies. This leads to complaints of blocked gutters, bad smells, flies and slippery paths and balconies.
Peter Cox offers a specialist bird control service that deals specifically with these problems and helps to prevent the potential damage that may result from pigeons roosting beneath the panels.
This is not a pest control service – our intention is always to deter birds from perching, roosting and nesting leaving them unharmed.
All of our works are carried out in compliance with the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 as well as the RSPB, RSPCA, DEFRA and Scottish Natural Heritage.
As well as providing the technology to deter roosting we also offer a comprehensive and professional environmental cleaning service of the affected areas using a dedicated biocide and insecticidal treatments carried out by our trained and experienced specialists.
