Damp Control

An early pioneer in the development of the remedial chemical damp proof course, Peter Cox has specialised for over 40 years in controlling damp in buildings.

Today our range of services includes -

Rising Damp & Replasteringrising damp

The original Peter Cox Transfusion System patented in the 1960s has now been succeeded by our DryWall silicone/silane diffusion system. This uses a cream formulation – it’s applicable to all types of masonry and there’s no liquid involved, so the wall is quicker to dry out.

Failure to employ the correct method of replastering – eg using a standard lightweight plaster - is the most common reason for continuing wall dampness. Our DryWall Salt Retardant Additive formulation provides the correct solution.

Where applicable, treatments carry our 20 year long term guarantee.

Condensation Control

Although not always immediately visible to the surveyor, condensation is perhaps the most common form of dampness in buildings.

In the home the lifestyle of the occupants can contribute significantly to the problem and this is frequently an issue in public sector housing where levels of ventilation, heating and insulation may not always be ideal.

Peter Cox recommends two methods of control -damp control

  • Extractor Fans -
to remove moisture laden air directly to the outside
from high humidity situations such as kitchens and bathrooms
  • Positive Pressure Ventilation -
to introduce fresh tempered outside air circulate it round the whole property, using ‘intelligent’ humidity based controls with low running costs.

Structural & Basement Waterproofing (‘Tanking’)

For waterproofing below ground areas such as basements, cellars and under pavement vaults, Peter Cox will design and install solutions in compliance with the BS8102: 1990 taking into account the intended end use of the space.waterproofing

One of two systems may be recommended for the walls and floor –

  • Cementitious Multi-Coat Render
designed to block the capillaries in masonry and so create a waterproof barrier
  • Cavity Drainage Membrane
using a studded polyethylene or polypropylene sheeting designed to accommodate water removal by channelling it away via natural drainage or a sump and pump system.

Where applicable, treatments carry a 5 year guarantee.
