For many years Peter Cox technical staff have presented seminars around the country to assist property professionals with their Continuing Professional Development.
The subjects covered range across our field of specialist expertise, with presentations lasting for approximately 45 minutes. If you would like to be notified about the next convenient regional event please complete the Seminar Request Form below, or alternatively, email
cpd@petercox.com and we would be delighted to present at your offices, where the agenda can be tailored to suit your specific needs.
Below you'll find a brief overview on each of our RIBA CPDs currently on offer. Whatever the topics covered, it's a useful opportunity to discuss current practice, review new developments in the industry and get questions answered.
You may be aware that RIBA has made some changes to their core curriculum. In order to help you prioritise your programme for the year, we have listed below our CPDs along with the name of the RIBA module that our CPD is classified under.
Basement & Structural Waterproofing to BS 8102
This presentation reviews the principal design references and the different grades of dryness in below ground spaces. It explains the alternative forms of waterproofing construction and examines in detail two specific waterproofing techniques:
- Cementitious renders
- Cavity drainage membranes

2 - Climate: sustainable architecture
7 - Designing and building it: design, construction, technology and engineering
Damp Control - The Latest Techniques
A refresher on the different factors behind wall dampness and the use of moisture profiling to aid diagnosis.
Various techniques for installing a remedial dpc are reviewed with specific focus on the silane diffusion system and the importance of using the correct re-plastering specification, with the most common faults highlighted.

5 - Compliance: legal, regulatory and statutory frameworks and processes
7 - Designing and building it: design, construction, technology and engineering
Masonry Stabilisation & Structural Reinforcement
The presentation starts with the causes of cavity wall tie failure, the BRE guidance on tie condition and how remedial ties are installed. For more serious masonry problems, grout-inflated anchors provide a flexible and well proven solution. The benefits are shown in project illustrations of their use in wall stitching / stabilisation / consolidation, for lateral restraint, crack stitching and secure fixing anchors.

7 - Designing and building it: design, construction, technology and engineering
Woodworm / Dry Rot Update - including Resin Repairs
This update covers the main species of wood boring insects and wood rotting fungi, their individual characteristics, the importance of correct identification and the latest treatment methods.
The presentation then looks at the option of heat treatment as an alternative to chemicals and the benefits of using resins in the repair of structural timber with examples of recent projects.

7 - Designing and building it: design, construction, technology and engineering
Condensation Control & Improving Air Quality in the Home
Condensation is one of the mostpressing issues in post war housing. This presentation reviews how it's formed, the concept of relative humidity, the hazards of humidity and associated airborne contaminants. The benefits of positive ventilation and mechanical extraction units are discussed together with the problem of toxic moulds and the DNA detection method.

7 - Designing and building it: design, construction, technology and engineering
Bird Control & Deterrence
For both designers, owners and those responsible for the maintenance of public and commercial property, bird infestation can be a real nuisance. This presentation explains the need for bird deterrence measures and the problems infestation causes, in particular the health risks. It reviews current bird deterrent techniques, their pro's and con's and the associated need for bird fouling clearance and site sanitisation.
